Mountaineering Studies Degree now in Nepal

Nepal Mountain Academy (NMA) has added Mountaineering Studies in their curriculum from this year. Affiliated with Tribhuvan University, NMA has taken an initiative to provide a world-class research and teaching on mountains and the mountaineering studies.

Mountains, that’s something which comes along with the identity of Nepal. Mountains around the world are some of the most majestic and beautiful things that one can witness. These mountains rise up out of the landscape and reach up high in the sky. Nepal has got a number of magnificent mountains lying on it, including the world’s highest mountain, Mt, Everest. It has 8 out of 10 highest peaks in the world including Mt. Everest.


With a number of students going abroad for education, NMA has come up with a course, where one can get a degree on Mountaineering Studies and then implement what they have learned in their own country amidst the Himalayas.

The curriculum for this program has been designed by leading professors of different faculties who are well known to the events that are happening in the mountain region and has got a comprehensive knowledge on the history of mountain tourism and mountaineering with an eye for the future.

Professional, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills with an aptitude for lifelong learning mountain education, are the approaches they will be focusing on. The program tries to develop capabilities, subject specifics, interdisciplinary, and methodological competencies that comprise with practical and applies competencies. The entire program indulges students on teaching ethics, stewardship, knowledge, professionalism, and mutuality between the stakeholders.

In Nepal, we have a lot of people working in the mountain region in different areas. Many make their living through tourism in such areas; tourism being one of the major sectors of the economy of Nepal, this course will definitely help them uplift their work. With the skills, they have got, and the knowledge that they would be getting from this degree, it would make a suitable outcome making people conscious and well-informed on their work.

The fee for the course has been set at NRs. 6,00,000 for Nepalese, NRs. 8,00,000, for SAARC nationals and NRs.12,00,000 for foreign nationals outside SAARC.
