In 2022, a team at Kyoto University in Japan partnered with Kajima Construction to unveil a concept for an interplanetary transportation system. This system would include:
- Hexatrack: A network of hexagon-shaped capsules linked together, inspired by the bullet train technology Japan is famous for.
- The Glass: Rotating space habitats built on the Moon and Mars that would simulate Earth’s gravity through centrifugal force. This would help address health concerns associated with long-term stays in low-gravity environments.
Not Quite Ready for Boarding
While the idea is exciting, it’s important to remember that this is still in the early stages of development. Researchers estimate it could take up to a century to become a reality. There are many technological hurdles to overcome, such as developing materials that can withstand the harsh space environment and perfecting the artificial gravity technology.
