A Look At The Movie “Kalo Pothi”

What’s so special about the 3 crore Nepali movie everyone’s talking about? Well, to give a basic idea, the film has already won the Best Film Award at the 72th Venice Film Festival, Critics Week! ‘Kalo Pothi’ is the first Nepali feature film to be selected in Venice Film Festival. The director of the movie, Min Bahadur Bham, have also had another short film Bansulli (The Flute) to be selected in the festival.

The film is set in the year 2001 when the civil war was ongoing. The plot revolves around two young friends, Prakash and Kiran, in a small village in Mugu and their journey after their hen goes missing. The movie featuring Khadka Raj Nepali, Benisha Hamal and Sukra Raj Rokaya was shot in Mugu. The length of the film is reported to be around 1 hour 30 minutes long.

‘Kalo Pothi’ will be one of the 51 feature films to be screened from 32 different Asian countries in ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ category.

Producers from Nepal, France, Switzerland and Germany have invested in the film whose budget is around 30 million rupees. The cinematographer Aziz Zhambakiyev had previously won an award on cinematography in Berlin Film Festival.
