On 11 oct, Sunday, KP Sharma Oli was elected as the new Prime Minister of Nepal. That afternoon Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nepal’s newly PM Oli and congratulated him.
During their conversation, Modi invited his new Nepali counterpart to visit India, according to the official Twitter account of Office of the Prime Minister of India.
Prime Minister Modi looks forward to working closely with Oli, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
“Prime Minister expressed the hope and expectation that Shri Oli will carry all sections of the society along, so that there is peace and stability in the country,” the MEA said in a statement, “We are confident that the Government of Nepal will address the remaining political issues confronting the country in a spirit of dialogue and reconciliation.”
According to the statement, Prime Minister Modi “conveyed that we have always stood for peace, prosperity and progress of Nepal, which is also in India’s interest”.
“India will continue to extend all assistance, in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Nepal, for peace, stability and socio-economic development of the country,” it further added.
The Legislature-Parliament elected CPN-UML Chairman Oli as Sushil Koirala’s successor.
Oli, who garnered support from 338 lawmakers, defeated the outgoing Prime Minister by 89 votes.
