It has been 4 months already since the 7.8 magnitude devastating earthquake hit Nepal. Thousands of people lost their lives and millions of people are left in desperate need of food and shelter. Nepal received around $4.1 billion international aid from different agencies and countries to cope with the situation. But the chief executive officer of Nepal’s newly created National Reconstruction Authority, Govind Raj Pokharel, admitted that the country has yet to even arrange to receive the fund two months ago. The Nepalese government has admitted it has been slow to start rebuilding and assisting citizens.
“We have lost everything. We are desperate, How much longer do we have to wait for help?”
one resident Maili Pariyar, 50, said outside her tent.
Other countries are stunned by this chaotic response from the Nepal government. It is believed that some experts had already predicted about the massive earthquake but the government still failed to make necessary plans. And now the government are struggling to cope with relief! Four months later, many partially damaged buildings in Kathmandu are still standing and rubble is strewn across public parks. Tens of thousands of people are living in plastic tents, preyed upon by flies and mosquitoes, with muddy paths and no drains.
