Observed in the month of Srawan, Janai Purnima is one of the widely celebrated festivals in Nepal. On this day, mainly Chhertris and Brahmins renew their Janai, a sacred thread, worn around their chests and wrists. Janai is given to males during a religious ritual called Bratabandha.
On this day, people visit various Shiva temples to participate in different rituals and worship the Lord. They go to the riverbanks and ponds to take a dip into the water and then move on towards changing their Janai.
