Sankhuwasabha Most Underrated Tourism Attraction

located in the high and mid-mountainous belt of Koshi zone at the Eastern Nepal, Sankhuwasabh is bordered with Taplejung and Terahthum district in the east, Solukhumbu and Bhojpur districts in the west, Dhankuta district in the south and Tibet the autonomous region of China in the north. The district varies greatly, as this district has the cool Alpine, in terms of climatic conditions and altitude.


Northern climate to southern subtropical climate, the district is rich in topography. Some of the breathtaking views are, the 5th highest mountain in the world in Mountain Makalu (8463 m), in the northern part of Kewabesi(250 m) in its lowest part in the southern part. The region has a great potential for the tourism sector. Moreover, there are rare species of flora and fauna, such as the Kande bhyakur, Red panda has also been spotted here. Khandbari bazaar is the headquarter of the district located on the mid-mountain of the city.

Tin Jure

You can enjoy a beautiful view of sunrise and sunset from Tin Jure Danda which lies 3,066 m above the sea level. Tin Jure Danda admires the Makalu massif and t his region is known for the 34 rhododendron varieties found in this area.

Gupteshwor Mahadev

In the natural grotto, situated in Jaljale VDC in Sankhwasabha District. It is the Holiest shrine of the Hindu god Shiva. Whereas the cave door is small, the cave’s inside is wide sufficient to house approximately 200 people. The dark cave requests that tourists hold light before entering the cave. The cellar has a phallic icon of Lord Shiva, continuously showered by the image of a cow with milky mud. Furthermore, It is a must-visit place which has both religious and cultural significance in the district.

Gupha Pokhari

Gupha Pokhari is a tranquil lake on the east bank facing the Kanchenjunga range, and west facing Makalu and the Khumbu Himal (range). From there, a short walk follows the creek of Milke Danda to the north, climbing to Jaljale Himal, a remote region of lake dispersion with Tibetan mountains.

Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area

This National Park is one of the most popular locations to travel in Sankhuwasabha, Nepal. The park is home to some of the richest and most unique plant, animal and vegetative species in the country.

Pattek Hill

Pattek Danda (2.500 m) also provides an equally famous panorama of the Himalaya from Mt. Everest to Kanchanjungha, as well as sunrise and sunset spectacles. Pattek Danda is also a good place for picnics, ideal for short treks. A 2-hour west walk from Basantapur Bazaar is a famous Goddess Kali temple. After a 15-minute drive, you can also reach Pattek Danda, about 3 km from Basantapur via Chitre. A 30-minute walk from here is Pattek Danda.

Milke Danda

Another hill, known as Milke Danda (2,905 m), is on its way to Taplejung and is popular for its rhododendron trees. The mountains of Kanchenjunga and Kumbhakarna and the sunrise and sunset views when the weather is right.

Panchakanya Pokhari

Another famous tourist attraction is Panchakanya Pokhari, also known as Chhathar Pokhari, the downhill from Sukrabare Bazaar is around two hours. The biggest in the region is Panchakanya among the other ponds here.
