Tsho Rolpa is a huge, potentially lethal glacial lake in Nepal that has been the focus of intense study and surveillance for decades. The Government of Nepal also putting it on its 1997 priority list. Mitigation efforts have effectively raised the elevation of the lake by 3 m by the year 2000, but the possibility of an eruption is still lingering.

Studies also recorded a rise of 3.3 per cent in the lake region between 2010 and 2015. An outburst flood will be devastating for people living downstream.
Moreover in 2012, the UNDP reported that an early warning system installed by the authorities in the late 1990s, which became defunct through lack of maintenance, will be replaced by a more modern warning system for glacial floods from the lake.
