Chitwan National Park established in the year 1973 is the first National park of Nepal. It was declared as UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in year 1984 because of its rich adornment of nature. The national park is home to a number of rare species like One Horn Rhino, Sloth Bear, Wild Elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger and Leopard along with various reptiles and different species of birds.

For an adventure junkie, Chitwan is one of the best destinations to explore the wildlife amidst some of the rarest species in the world.

1. Elephant Safari

It is one of the best ways to come closer to other animals; you can be up to 1 meter close. You will surely enjoy the ride on elephant’s back in search of other rare species. The basket like structure on top of the elephant holds up to 4 people at a time. Roughly eight to nine elephants go on along the muddy path through the jungle, across the river in one shift.

The alternative to this safari is jeep safari which isn’t bad either. Just hop on one and off you go for the ride.

2. Canoeing

A relaxing way to lay back and enjoy watching birds and other wildlife species, canoeing takes you on a silent trip down the Rapti River to have a glance at crocodiles, birds and animals at the river bank. A boat accompanies around 8-9 people. You are accompanied by a guide who will tell you about the hereabouts as you pass through the stream.

3. Elephant games and shows

In Chitwan, you can watch various elephant games that includes elephant racing, elephant beauty competitions and elephant polo.

For elephant’s beauty competition, the owner decorates his elephant with different vibrant colors and the elephant demonstrates its skills to woo the crowd.

It is one of the popular and must thing to do when you visit Chitwan.

4. Sublime sunset view

In the evening, you can take a stroll down the river and enjoy the sublime view of the sunset against the river. Also, if you got lucky you can spot animals near the river.

5. Tharu Village

You can explore the cultural museum, old traditional houses to learn about the unique traditions and daily life of Tharu people. You can also enjoy the Tharu dance put up by majority of hotels for visitors. The exciting part is you can dance along with the dancers dressed up in their traditional wear and then move along with their beats.

6. Cycling

Cycling in Chitwan is one of the efficient and eco-friendly way to get around the places. You could hire one, and cycle through the warm wind that passes against your face beside the elephants and other animals used for transportation means.

7. Bull Cart or Pony Ride

Strolling the streets of Chitwan in a bull cart or pony ride is a fun experience. If lucky with a friendly rider, they share you different experience, their culture, and their way way of leaving. They even let you ride the horse and guide you along the way.

8. Bird Watching

Chitwan National Park offers more than 564 species of birds. If you are a bird lover, then an early morning walk around the Rapti River would surely give you an overwhelming experience.

You can also take a jungle walk with the naturalist where you can spot different varieties of birds both local and migratory.
